Criteria for Nomination

The Golden Stethoscope Award is presented to Medical Students who have demonstrated the following characteristics during their third-year rotations:

  • Compassion, caring, altruism
  • Academic excellence
  • The ability to go “above and beyond”

The recipient should be “the type of medical student you would like to walk into your room if you were a patient at one of the Academy hospitals.”

Established in 2005, the award is presented to up to nine students each year.

Process for Nomination

Complete our new Online Golden Stethoscope Nomination Form

Completed forms should include student name, nominator information, rotation and supporting comments of minimum 200 words.

A committee reviews the nominees and selects up to nine students from the Wightman-Berris Academy who fulfil the criteria.

Please note: Nominations must come from CC3 clinical rotation supervisors. One of the nominators can be a senior resident, however, at least one must be a faculty member. If the nomination is by a senior resident or fellow, it must be co-submitted with a faculty member.
